People are always asking me how biznaga came to be ... so here’s the story
I was working really hard in Australia and decided that it was time to take a couple of years out of the corporate
world to live in another country and learn another language. I stumbled upon Málaga in the south of Spain and
was lucky enough to be studying in Pedregalego - a beautiful area just out of Málaga. After 6 weeks of language
classes, I had a job, an apartment and some very rusty Spanish! But it was enough to give me a reason to stay.
I quickly fell in love with the Spanish way of life, the incredible food and the amazing people and found myself well
and truly immersed in my ‘Spanish Life’. My Spanish friends and ‘family’ not only corrected my spanish, but showed
me the very best parts of ‘el mundo español’. I was taken to markets to meet the producers, learn the finer details
of chorizo, queso and boquerones and to buy whatever we were going to cook for lunch! I was taught traditional
recipes for all my favourite Spanish foods, invited to Sunday lunch with Spanish families, and spent more than my
fair share of weekends lying on the beaches of Cadíz. After a few years, I was convinced to return to working life in
Australia, but every year I returned to get my fix of all things Spanish.
I have always felt super lucky for having experienced all of this and so I decided that it was only fair that I share it
with everyone else ... and that’s how biznaga Travel Company was born!
(Oh and the name ... The name of the company comes from the “Biznaga Malagueña” which is one of the
traditional symbols of the city of Málaga. The biznaga is a handmade ‘flower’ created by placing jasmine blossoms
onto the individual stems of the armazón plant. The result is beautiful flower whose sweet perfume permeates the
streets of Malaga throughout the summer months. The biznaga personifies the biznaga Travel Company
philosophy – every biznaga is as unique as every biznaga holiday).
